The only areas in which God ever said to "prove Him" are tithes, offerings, and giving. Malachi 3:10 is where this promise is found. It invites us to prove or challenge God for a "windows of Heaven" blessing when we bring our tithes into the storehouse which today would be the church in which we attend and are blessed. It states that the blessing is so large that we won't have room enough to receive it.
I've been told this promise is no longer for us today because tithes are under the Old Testament Law and there is no verse in the New Testament telling us to tithe. I did a study and found that tithing is under the New testament Law but not as the Law, but by faith. You can go to that study here and learn more so that the windows of Heaven will not be closed for you.
How To Open The Windows Of Heaven
Many people are trying to receive God's financial and material blessings without thought of obedience to God's word, thereby closing off God's financial blessings.
The Windows Of Heaven Blessing is opened by faith and obedience, not by faith alone.
Revelations 3:7-8 tells us that what God opens no man can shut. Even Satan can't close the windows of our blessings, but each one of us can shut ourselves off from them by not giving in obedience to God. So if you believe that tithing is not for us today, you pay the price of having them shut off from you.
I always tell Christians that in everything we do we must partner with God. This includes receiving our financial blessings. Many times Christians pray and use faith, believing according to Mark 11:23-24 that they have received the financial blessings they ask for in prayer, as well as they should. But those blessings never come, leaving discouragement and sometimes disbelief in God's Word or that God's Word can't work for them.
But God's Word works whether we make it work or not. What is missing is the obedience to do what God says about giving. We have to be commitment to obey God's Word and live it. This means changing our lifestyle if necessary. When we look for excuses for not paying tithes or offerings we are actually keeping ourselves from receiving what we want. The windows of Heaven blessings appear to be shut when we don't prove God's Word to be true in Malachi 3:10.
The windows of heaven will open for us and pour us out a blessing when we bring our tithes into the storehouse. This is true for every blessing we desire. Jesus Christ has opened doors that we may receive blessings for whatever we need or want because of His work on the cross, but we must do more than believe by faith that we have them. We have to live in obedience to what the Word says.
We can't expect God to do everything while we sit back and take. As we do our part and continue to do our part, we will continue to receive God's Windows of Heaven blessing. We must keep our lives right before God and be willing to change when necessary. It's never a bad thing to change. By not wanting to admit that we've been wrong will keep us from receiving God 's best.
Concerning God's financial blessings, don't let your fear of change keep the windows of Heaven closed on your behalf. When we do what God has told us to do in the Bible, then we are obeying Him and we can expect to receive whatever we need from Him.
