Writing compelling articles for your website will keep your information from being a cookie-cutter-clone of similar articles found on the Internet. Make your knowledge about a specific subject stand out so that the reader will want to read through to the conclusion   

How to Write Articles That Get Attention

Write your first sentence to grab your reader's attention so that they will want to get past the first twenty words of your article. This is because most readers lose interest reading a boring article within those first twenty words.  So avoid writing an article that no one cares about.  Do a little keyword research to find out which subjects are most interesting to people. 

Make your articles interesting to keep your
reader's interest and to keep them on your website. Your topics should be interesting paragraph by paragraph.

Think about articles you have read.  Which ones kept your interested and made you want to read each one from beginning to end?  I believe it's safe to say that it was an article that was not only written well, but one that flowed within your area of interest, but offered information you needed or wanted to know more about.

Writing Compelling Articles That Are Fun 

If you're writing about a boring subject and you can't seem to make it interesting, you can drop it or find a way to bring some humor into it.  Some subjects aren't funny at all because they should be kept serious, such as "child abuse" or "financial disaster" for example, but there are some subjects you can have fun with and add a few light-hearted comments to make the article more interesting rather than sinking your readers into a soft, deep sleep.

On the other hand, if you stick to topics that seem interesting to you at the onset, then you won't have to worry about having to making too great an effort to be interesting.

What I do when writing an article that may be somewhat off my theme and outside my realm of interest is to check it's popularity on the Internet.  I go to the Yahoo or Bing searches and input the keyword for my topic. If it has a popularity of at least 500,000 website owners, then I use it.  Anything less, I may consider it down to 300,000 if it's a topic I am hearing a lot about at the time. 

I normally write about what I know, but when I decide to do an article about an unfamiliar subject I read as much as I can about it so that that I can write a good, honest and compelling article that will grab my readers attention.

Honesty and engagement are key: if you want people to be interested in what you write, you have to be interested in what you're writing.
