How To Avoid Debt

Take my advice, it's better to avoid debt than to trust it for helping you fix your current money difficulties.

If you're trying to save money, find others ways to do it rather than looking to credit cards to help you.

I remember when I got my first credit card. I thought that if I used it to pay for goods and services I'd always be ahead with my money because my plan was to pay off what I spent the next month. However a few months of financial difficulty made that impossible for a time, so the debt began to mount. That's when I realized that I had let credit give me a false sense of security.

People don't realize that borrowing money whether it be with a credit card or cash, doesn't help them to stabilize their finances. The truth is, that is only makes their situation worse because they still have to pay back the money they borrowed--and with interest!

Should you be thinking about using credit cards to help you get the items you need or worse things that you want, you are heading down a bumpy road that leads to more financial problems and perhaps bankruptcy. Believe me, things go along great for awhile, but if anything goes wrong and you miss a payment, and then another, you're going to be in worse shape than if you had used cash only.

Here are some of the problems you may be facing if you choose not to avoid debt from using credit cards:

  • you pay high late fees from $30 to $50
  • you may pay over-limit fees
  • your interest rate will more than likely be raised
  • your good credit will be destroyed
  • you will never pay down your debt by paying minimum payments

Avoiding Debt Through Wisdom

I realize it seems so easy to use credit. You don't have to carry around money, it seems at first that you have more money to save, and you don't have to let go of your cash. But if you're not a wealthy person, sooner or later the euphoric state of being will come to a crashing end! This is because credit cards-no matter how enticing and convenient these might seem-may be the most expensive loans made by banks, department stores, and gasoline companies.

You're got to resist the temptation to either start a new account or keep using the cards you have. Just cut them up right now! If this doesn't seem possible at the moment, then work at weaning yourself off the cards and on to cash by cutting back on unnecessary spending.

Why avoid cards altogether or cut up the ones you already have? Because no matter how hard a person tries, there will always be situations where he or she will give in to the temptation credit cards offer. A special dinner you can't afford, a lavish Christmas holiday, vacation or new wardrobe. It's just natural for people to desire material things. So if you avoid credit cards, you will avoid debt!

If you're having problems saying "no" to credit card offers, listen to the experts in order to avoid debt by credit cards. Reflect upon what you're doing to your financial future. Knowing the interest rate you'll have to pay if you choose to make payments rather than paying off your balance each month should help you to use cash or not spend whenever possible.

What I learned to do was to use a credit card only for emergencies. It was nice to know it was there, but it wasn't something I depended upon. So make up some rules about how you will use a credit card if you decide you have to have one.

To help you further, follow these tips:

  • pay your credit card bills on time
  • always know how much credit you have
  • use your card with caution
  • check your statements to see how much you are spending
  • be a good steward of your money
We need to take care of our money and use it to better our lives, not put them in a state of misery. So take care of what you have and watch what you spend to help free you from debt or avoid debt if you don't have credit cards.
