Religious Spiritual Fiction Novel, Quiet Rain Review by Margaret Lukasik

The religious spiritual fiction novel, Quiet Rain, written by author April Williams, will lead you on a roller coaster of emotions from romance to family loyalty and ties. It is clearly a story that is drenched with abandonment, disloyalty, hatred, secrets, spirituality, and most of all love.

I hope you enjoy my review which I feel shows the honest spirit of the author to give an account of the suffering many women endure because they were never taught how important their lives are to God, to themselves and to those who love and honor them.

Religious Spiritual Fiction, Quiet Rain Review

For the sake of love, romance and keeping her family together, Josie Gibbs, April's main character, suffers at the hands of yet another man who has little respect, if any, for her or any woman in his life.

From the beginning of the story I'm able to feel Josie's pain at the hands of her abusive boyfriend and then her hope as she escapes to her mother's home for safety. Pregnant with two other children by her ex-husband, Josie's safety continues to be challenged by her drunken boyfriend. As I went from page to page, I couldn't help but wonder if this poor soul, who appears clueless about choosing the right man, would ever develop the strength to find a good man that would love her and fulfill her dream of romance. It certainly didn't seem likely.

But Josie does find the love of her life. A beautiful romance develops that is eventually threatened and then ends because of her past and his family. It seems that whatever chances she has of marrying a good man who loves and respects her are now gone. What comes next is the continuation of Josie's determination to have a man in her life no matter what the circumstances and regardless of the legacy of abuse she establishes for her children. Blind to the most heinous of sins committed within her own household, she remains strong in her decision to stick with her husband and weak in her ability to stop the abuse she continues to suffer.

Just as I was ready to give up on Josie or her children ever finding happiness and a normal life, an amazing miracle, which transforms the whole family, comes through the most unlikely character in the story, Josie's angry and bitter daughter May. Her wonderful strength, insight and courage turns a legacy of abuse into a lifetime of fulfilling and surprising dreams.

No one deserves to suffer and remain in an abusive relationship, but so many women believe they are stuck because of the fear, the threats and the abuse. It's not easy to understand for those who haven't been there, but it's a crippling fear that blinds one into believing that by staying, life will be safer for all. But by putting their courage into staying, they never leave or stop this repetitive pattern of domestic violence. Surprisingly, April is able to give clarity and insight into this misunderstood mentality through her writing.

Expect a few bad words (not of the worst kind) and some detail of sex that isn't normally present in Christian novels. However, the book's genre as religious spiritual fiction, does give the author more ability to write in the tone of "true life" reality that isn't always comfortable to read or think about. However, let it be said that I admire April for sharing a story that took much strength, character, and courage to write.
