The 70-10-10-10 Money Method

Now that you have a better understanding of the spiritual side of money by using scripture to have control over it while you grow closer to God, it's time to learn the practical side.  There's not much to learn once you make the decision to center upon Christ and give the Word of God first place in your life.

On your own or with the help of your parents, break your allowance and the gifts you receive into four parts.  If you're old enough to have employment, you can use your earnings as well.

If at this time you are spending whatever you make or receive as a gift, then you will probably live paycheck to paycheck as an adult.  The habits your form as a child and young adult will carry through to your being an adult.  You will not learn to be a good steward and it will certainly keep you from prospering your money.

If you don't mind using a bank such as the 4 compartment pig bank in the upper right column or the football bank below it, you can use this method to save, invest, spend and give.  You can also make your own by using the method I give for children. Click here to view that page.

Teen Money Management Tip: Make Your own!

4-part bank Also you can use craft containers found in most craft stores that stack or lock onto one another such as the one shown here. I paid $9.00 for the group, but I found them cheaper at Amazon.com for about $4.75 for six containers

If you can't find them in your area, click below:

You can get all sizes as shown.  But whatever type of bank you decide to use, do it as soon as possible.  Now is the best time of your life to utilize this method to form good money habits before you form bad ones. Even if the adults around you seem to be having difficulties with their money, learn to be a good steward because you will learn how to look at money God's way and also perpetuate it.  If all Christian young people were taught teen money management principles, Christians wouldn't be struggling with money.

So as you take control of your money, there is also the bigger picture.  Perhaps through this teen money management program you will be able to help other Christians get on this same program with their money.

Teen Money Management Training For Becoming a wealthy Adult

James 1:4 gives us the message that God wants us to want for nothing.  This means that He wants us prosper in our health, money and in all that we do.

Throughout the Bible we are told that God wants us to grow our money, but we can't do it without effort on our part.   You have to take responsibility for your financial stability and future growth.  You can do that with the right attitude, character and actions by applying the
10/10/10/70 rule.   It's the best defense against experiencing financial ruin in your future.  Here's the breakdown:

For all money you earn or receive, you will:

  • Give     10% to God for tithing
  • Invest   10% giving offerings
  • Save     10% for their future
  • Spend    70% for wants and needs

Just as the world's wealthiest people teach their children how to financially prosper as adults by learning money principles early in life, this system along with God's wealth plan for Kingdom living will develop an early understanding of how to live from 70% of your income, how to plan ahead and save for major purchases and how to make your money increase through tithing and offerings.

You Can Do This By:

  • Saving 10% for God from all money received
  • Saving another 10% for offerings (tithes and offering are different)
  • Saving 10 % for long-term savings
  • Spend 70% for whatever you want with supervision and wisdom from your parents when spending for things you know your parents wouldn't approve of and for expensive items.

Remember, the Teen Money Management Program should bring you closer to God, so it should also make you more responsible towared your parents in being a respectful son or daughter to what they believe is good or bad for your safety and protection. They have to answer to God for how they bring you up so you have to see that they are doing the best for you thay believe is right.  Just keep in mind that this program should never cause dissention between you and your parents.

 Tithes and Offerings

Now that you know how to divide your money for future growth and control over your money, it's time that you learn how to tithes and give offerings.  It's one thing to save them, but you have to know what it means to give your tithes and offerings and how to give them.

It's not enough to just put your money in the offering plate. There is the spiritual side too. To learn what to do, read my Tithes and Offering's article to see how easy it is to insure that your tithes and offerings prosper you the way God intended.

  Teen Money Management Finance Organizer

If you wish to keep a record of the money you have coming in and going out, this finanance organizer for teens was designed to help you keep track of your money.

You can also use a regular notebook from the "school supplies" section of a local store, such as Walmart, if you're inclined to be a very organized person but you don't have the resources currently to purchase an organizer.  This will help you to see exactly what you're doing with your money now and what you plan to do with your 70%.

This type of record keeping will help you to save part of your 70% for future spending and it will also show you how you are spending your money so that you can identify poor spending habits now in order to corrent them at an early age.

You can do whatever you want with your 70%, so organizing it might help you to set spending goals and then attain them.
